AAF Facility in Shippagan, New Brunswick

I.B.E. and Ascom have been awarded the Canadian contract to build a 200 ton Mobile Boat Hoist.  The provincial government of New Brunswick Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture, & Fisheries (AAF) issued purchase order to Ascom S.p.A. of Formigine (MO) Italy on March 27th 2014.  The 200 metric ton Mobile Boat Hoist model BHT 204 will be built for delivery to the AAF facility at 278 Avenue des Pecheurs, Shippagan, New Brunswick in October of this year.

I.B.E. President and Director of Marketing for Ascom N. America said, “I was so excited to have finally bid this job!”  “It took nearly 10 years since my first sales call to this facility in great little French speaking town of Shippagan.  Each year thereafter, I would still be patiently waiting for the tender to be let in hopes that we would get the contract and I could return to say hello to all the fine people I had met there.  I’m really proud to be a part of something so important to this little fishing community and it’s future growth.

We will be sponsoring the Friday luncheon at the 2014 ABBRA Boatyard Business Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Conference will be held at the B Ocean Hotel, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, January 22-24, 2014.

Shown here with test weights in excess of 137,500 lb. for a successful installation with 125% of the machine’s rated load capacity (50 metric ton).  The Ascom model BHT 50 features both front and rear power sling adjustment, 2 speed hoisting, Stainless Steel pipes, pivot trunnion for articulation on uneven ground, new industrial grade tires, all wheel steering, and radio remote controls.

On February 16th, 2013, the City and Borough of Wrangell, Alaska award Ascom S.p.A. of Modena, Italy a contract to build a 300 metric ton Boat Hoist.  Ascom and the Director of Marketing for Ascom in North America (James Alfieri of Tampa, FL) were recently given the green light to proceed with the contract requirements after a drawn-out Protest and Appeals process by the US competitor.

Ascom’s President, Roberto Schedoni, replied to the City Clerk’s “Notice of Decision to accept the Borough Managers denial [of the appeal] and the Agreement for the 300-Ton Marine Vessel Hoist” with an expression of gratitude.  “First of all, I would like to express my total gratitude for the award. Please be assured that all of Ascom’s staff, Mr. Alfieri, and I, look forward to working with you on this project.  Once again, thank you for your confidence.” 

Ascom’s competition had raised protest of the City and Borough’s decision to award Ascom S.p.A. after having over-bid the proposal by some 30+ %. That protest was denied by the Borough attorney and then again appealed as is allowed by law but, it too was denied by the City manager.

Rain and Wind Cannot Stop A Good Thing.

Three days of high winds and rain were a challenge, but IBE, Inc. and Wiggins Lift Co. weather it well at the Miami International Boat Show. A special thanks to those of you who visited us at our booth – it is always a pleasure to meet new people and catch up with old friends. The industry seems to be on an upswing lately, so we look forward to a great year with some great customers.
